Reflections of Life

Seventy-one years ago, God loaned us one of His precious jewels, Moses Alexander Webb, Sr. He entered into rest on Thursday morning, December 25, 2008 at Rappahannock General Hospital. Born December 17, 1937, to the late Frank Webb and Alease Veney in Farnham, Virginia, he was educated in the Richmond County public schools.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Frank Blue and John Brooks, and one sister, Verdine Laws.
Moses, Sr. joined Mulberry Baptist Church at an early age and rededicated his life to Christ on July 24, 2008.
“Cat Man”, as many knew him, started his career doing many side jobs consisting of a fisherman, mechanic, construction worker and the Seafood Industry. He later perfected his skills by becoming a Maintenance Engineer for the Architect of the Capitol in Washington, DC, where he retired in 1998. During his years of employment, he received several awards for his achievements and years of dedicated service.
His passion for cars led Moses, Sr. to become a founding member of the Pony Riders Mustang Club. He was also an avid hunter, and was a member of the Northumberland Hunting Club and the Farnham Hunting Club.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Antoinette Webb; thirteen children, Elvis Webb (Dorothy), Larry Johnson (Wanda), Kim Johnson, Marilyn Seldon (Joseph), Lena Webb, Lisa Smith (Rodney), Moses Webb, Jr. (Trina), Aretha Brown, Danielle Smith (Lester), Lamont Thompson, Frank Thompson (Sharese), Dorothea Webb, and Rodney Weeks; three stepchildren, Jerry Butler (Marcell), Angela Dyer and Tamara Scott (Andre); thirty-three grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He also leaves six siblings, Edna Carter (John W.), Carrie Smith, Cora Veney, Kenneth Veney, H. Randolph Veney (Doris), and Joanne Mynatt; a special aunt, Lillian Veney; cousin, Inez Veney; a sister-in-law, Gloria Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a devoted friend, Gloria Jean and (son Tyrone) Thompson, and many special friends.

My Work Is Done
I've done my work, I've sung my song.
I've done some good, I've done some wrong.
I've fought the battle, while my body was strong.
Now I'm off to the Master, where I belong.
He knows my heart and every thought.
He knows what pains and joys I've brought.
He knows my soul so weak and blind,
So full of fears of mortal mind.
He knows my steps and He knows best.
He will not harm where He has blessed.
And so my friends, I'm off to rest.
My work is done, I've done my best.

I lived as long as I could….
And died when I could no longer help it.

~ A Note of Thanks ~

Perhaps you sang a lovely song, or sat quietly in a chair.
Perhaps you sent or spoke kind words as any friend could say.
Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day.
Perhaps you prepared some tasty food or maybe furnished a card.
Perhaps you rendered a service unseen, near at hand or from afar.
Whatever you did to console our hearts,
We thank you so much, whatever the part.
May God bless you….

Life Reflections

“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?”

Early Tuesday morning, December 23, 2008, after a brief stay at the Warsaw Health Care Center in Warsaw, Thelbert Henry Brown answered the call of his Lord and Savior and took his flight into God’s presence.

Thelbert was the fourth of six children born to the late Richard Lyell and Edna Jane Brown. He was born April 14, 1914 in Emmerton, Virginia.

Thelbert accepted Christ at an early age. He received his formal education in the public schools of Richmond County, Virginia. After leaving the area, he established his employment career in the Washington DC area. He then chose to become active with the Armed Forces during World War II. Thelbert later received an honorary discharge from the military and then went on to work as a civil service employee until retirement.

Thelbert’s enjoyable moments of life included boating, fishing, cooking and spending time with special friends and family and sharing old war stories that he experienced.

He leaves to mourn a devoted friend, Elsie Thompson of Warsaw, Virginia; 1 brother, Ramie J. Brown (Margaret) of New Jersey; 2 sisters-in-law, Mamie Veney and Ann Veney, both of Warsaw, Virginia; 12 nieces, Christine Morgan of Washington, DC, Estelle Burrell of Warsaw, Virginia, Edna Cousins of Baltimore, Maryland, Burnell Veney of Warsaw, Virginia, Virginia Greene (Rev. Albert Greene, Sr.) of Baltimore, Maryland, Ruby Meade of Warsaw, Virginia, Delores Moody of Warsaw, Virginia, Vanessa Robinson of New Jersey, Karen Alston of Pennsylvania, Maxine Smith of Arlington, Virginia, Elizabeth Lee of Warsaw, Virginia, and Peggy Johnson of Washington, DC; 3 nephews, Rev. Thomas Brown (Sarah) of Baltimore, Maryland, June Veney and Odell Veney, both of Warsaw, Virginia; and a host of great nieces, nephews, and friends.

“I’m Free”
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free. I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things I too, will miss.
Be not burdened in times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heads and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me FREE!

Obituary

Ye, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4

David Jackson was born April 2, 1914 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the son of the late Mrs. Nellie Jackson.
On Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA, one we loved and knew stepped across the threshold that we call death. The Lord God Almighty, in His infinite wisdom, called him from labor to reward.
David confessed Christ at an early age and became a member and strong supporter of First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, Virginia. Under the leadership of the late Rev. George N. Bumbrey, he was ordained as a deacon, a position that he cherished and served dutifully as long as health allowed. David was also a valued member of the Trustee Board, Pastor’s Aid Club and flower Club.
David was joined in marriage to Dorothy Lucas Jackson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister Adelaide Frazier, and brother, Albert Jackson.
David leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Gale D. Triplett; two granddaughters, Robin Triplett and April Perton, and one great grandson, James Sanders, all of Columbus, GA; five great nieces, Rosa L. Redman of Fort Washington, MD, Frances F. Gowdy of Capital Heights, MD, Jacquelin Ward of Chicago, IL, Gwendolyn Lewis of Alexandria, VA, and Urzetta Lewis of King George, VA; a special cousin, Maurice Beverly of Hepzhibah, GA and a special buddy, William Dudley of King George, VA. In addition, a host of other family members and friends are left to continue the legacy and cherish the memories of deacon David Jackson.

We are so sad when those we love are called to live in that house above.
But why should we grieve when they say goodbye
And go dwell in a cloudless sky-
They have but gone to prepare the way and we’ll see them again some happy day!

To everything there is a season, and a time to every Purpose under the heaven; A time to be born, and a time to die: A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 2, and 4

His life was full and very long, and through it his faith was strong
That when his tasks on earth were done, there would be a new eternal home.
When there is no toil, pain or strife, but joy and peace in this new life,
And now that he is with thee at rest, help us, dear God to give our best.

A Note of Thanks

Whether by card, letter, words, a smile or a prayer, you have been a comfort to us. Our burdens have been lightened and our faith deepened by your care and concern. Thank you so much and may God’s rich fountain of blessings continue to flow forth to each of you.

Alvin attended school in Lott, Texas and after marriage relocated to Midland, Texas where he was employed as a Truck Driver at Dow Chemical. He then relocated to Madera, California where he went to work as a Sanitation Engineer. He continued to work until his illness no longer allowed him to work at that occupation. He then resided at the Madera County nursing home until the Lord called him home on October 6, 2008.

He will be missed for his reverse motivation and for his unpredictable resolutions to problems and issues of life. He loved baseball, wrestling and hunting and was very good at all of them. May he forever rest in peace.

Upson and one Daughter in law, Minister Doris Engram Upson, four grand-daughters, Doris Eubanks (Dennis), Tonya Henry (Earnest), Denise Lindsay (Eric), and Tiffany Frye. Janice preceded him in death.
