Reflections of Life
Emanuel Smith Grimes, Jr., oldest son of the late Emanuel Smith Grimes, Sr. and Lucy Robinson Grimes, was born April 3, 1924. In June 1950, he was united in holy matrimony to Elsie Coleman.
He joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age, where he served faithfully and diligently as Trustee and Treasurer. He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge and Rappahannock Lodge No. 211 Free and Accepted Masons. Emanuel was educated in the Richmond County Public Schools. After graduating from Richmond County High School, he served in the United States Army.
Emanuel was employed by the Naval Surface Weapon Center in Dalhgren where he continued his education at the University of Maryland. He retired from NSWC in 1980, after 30 years of service. In September of 1980, he began working for the Richmond County Public Schools as a bus driver, where he received yearly recognition for safe driving. He retired in June of 2007 with acknowledgement of twenty-seven years of dedicated service to the Richmond County Public Schools. Emanuel was also employed by the Lee Funeral Home.
On Friday, October 19, 2007, God called Emanuel home. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife, Elsie; four children, Mary Henderson, Emanuel S. Grimes, III, Deborah Grimes-Bass and James Grimes; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Christopher, Jeremy, Ashley, Megan, Camereon, Allen, Stephen and Patrick; three great grandchildren, Destin, Dequan and Keyontré; one step granddaughter, Tamika; three sisters, Evelyn Raymond, Frances Dudley, and Laura Williams; two sisters-in-law, Susie Grimes Owen and Frances Grimes; one brother-in-law, Alonzo Williams; son-in-law, Stanley Henderson. He was preceded in death by brothers Edward and Thurmond Grimes and Sister Lucy Grimes Swann. Emanuel will also be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends Rueben Bryant, Richard Thomas and Sonny Kidd.
Emanuel was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man, always willing to assist in any way he could. He loved gardening and working on his cars. He touched many lives and will be remembered for his gentle, kind spir

Reflections of Life


Elsie Marie Scott of Warsaw, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital on Wednesday, October 3, 2007.

Mrs. Scott was a homemaker and had devoted her entire life to her family. Her humility and loving-kindness gave her special recognition, respect, and notability, as an incredible centenarian, neighbor, and friend.

Mrs. Scott was born March 18, 1899, near Newland, in Richmond County, Virginia. She was the eldest of five daughters and two sons born to the late Joseph and Hattie Cupid. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Scott; her daughter Marie Thompson, and sons, Henry, Albert, Ezekiel, Raymond and William Scott.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church where she used to sing on the choir and cook meals for special occasions.

Surviving her departure with cherished memories are: One son, Eugene Scott of Browns Store; Five daughters, Hattie Gardner of Philadelphia, PA, Violet Ashton of Richmond, VA, Rachel Roane, Helen Scott and Shirley Thompson, all of Warsaw, VA; Four daughters-in-law, Edith Scott, Leatrice Scott, Virginia Scott and Lynette Scott; twenty-two devoted grandchildren; forty-six great grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; a daughter-like companion, Ann Veney; Son-like cousin, Robert Johnson; very special cousin, Gladys Pettiford; devoted neighbors, Hilda Robinson, John and Annette Reed and family, and the Irving Packett family. Also many extended family and friends whose lives were touched in a great way by her being.

 
 
William Allen Liverpool

On Saturday, September 8, 2007, in the early morning, William Allen Liverpool closed his eyes to a peaceful rest. He was born on July 2, 1931 to Robert Daniel and Ida Blanch Johnson Liverpool.

He attended Corbin Park School in Richmond County, Virginia. He worked for Jack Morris Lumber Company for many years. William lived a quiet life and enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews. One devoted nephew, Herman Liverpool, Sr.; Two devoted friends, Revell Fauntleroy and Harvey Barber; and Care giver, Jackie Byrd.

Funeral Services will be held at the Lee Funeral Home Chapel, 183 Richmond Hill Road, Warsaw, VA on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment: Second Baptist Church Cemetery

Kinte “Te” Khareen Veney entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 2, 2007. He was a native of Fairbanks, Alaska and moved to Maryland in January 1991.
Kinte graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1996. Most recently, he was a student at the University of the District of Columbia, training to be a Certified Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic at Reagan National Airport.
At an early age, he joined Mulberry Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen Veney, and Robert and Beatrice Coleman.
He is survived by his parents: Cheryl Veney (Ron Anderson) and Waverly Veney, Sr. (Leslie Gray); his Grandmother, Dorothy Veney; Brothers, Kenyatta Veney, Keith Ball and Waverly Veney, Jr.; Sister, Lisa Brown; Aunts, Theressa “Terry” Lanear, Yvonne Veney and Ruthie Hale; Uncles, Stephen Veney, Sr., and Ron Lenear; Great Aunt, Elsie Brown (Thelbert); Great Uncle, Marion Veney; Special Friend, Jamia Capehart and daughter Obinna; plus a host of other relatives, friends, and extended family.

Virginia C. Carter was born February 8, 1938 in Sharps, Virginia to Harold Croxton and Lucille Carter Croxton. She was the fifth child in a family of five.

Virginia affectionately known as “Ginger Cake” married John H. Caster, Sr. and from this union they were blessed with three loving children, John Henry Caster, Jr. Debbie Caster and Diane Caster.
In the early sixties the family moved from Virginia to New York and later resided in Baltimore, Maryland.
Virginia was raised in a Christian home and at an early age joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Sharps, Virginia. She attended Richmond County High School. She was a loving and caring person not only to her children but to everyone she met.
We can all see “Ginger Cake” singing and playing her favorite tunes on her guitar, accompanied by her son John, Jr. on the drums.
Virginia is survived by her husband, John H. Caster, Sr. “Odell; two daughters, Diane and Debbie Caster; one son, John Henry Caster, Jr. (Crystal); two sisters, Alma Nickens and Elizabeth Savoy; one loving uncle John W. Carter; one aunt, Edna Carter, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters in –laws and 4 brothers in-laws and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Charles Linwood “Sonny” Lucas was born to the late Charles Edward Lucas and Martha Madgelene Brown on September 23, 1943 in Colonial Beach, Virginia.
He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday February 11, 2007 at the home of his sister, Virginia Ashton.
In August 1958, he accepted Christ and joined the Good Hope Baptist Church, King George Virginia under the leadership of the late Reverend Ralph E. Cabbell. As a youth he attended Sunday school and worship services.
Sonny was educated at the Ralph Bunch High School in King George, Virginia.
Through Sonny’s journey of life he was employed as a United States Postal Worker as a mail carrier and was a professional Tractor Trailer Driver, he was also employed by the Electric Company in Maryland, currently he was employed at CVS Distribution, Inc in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Sonny was a man of many talents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernell Stanley Lucas and granddaughter Amira Lucas.
In June 1990, he was united in holy matrimony to the former Connie Mae Tate.
Sonny was a very pleasant and fun loving person, always joking about everything and saying what was on his mind, he was a realist never pretending to be something he wasn’t.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Mae Lucas of Colonial Beach, Virginia; two daughters, Toni Yvette Stallings of Cheltenham, Maryland and Toleda Monique Johnson of Fredericksburg, Virginia; one son-in-law, Gregory Stallings of Cheltenham, Maryland; one son, Charles Linwood Tate of Colonial Beach, Virginia; one step-son, Martin Watts of Colonial Beach, Virginia; four step-daughters, Shelia Robinson of Capital Heights, Maryland, Marsha Newman (Carlos) of King George, Virginia, Tracy Tate and Sherrie Tate both of Colonial Beach
Virginia; six grandchildren, Leon, Quentin,and Amelah of Cheltenham, Maryland, Jalontae, Javontae and Jaquan of Fredericksburg, Virginia; one great grandson, Leon Jr., of Cheltenham, Maryland; Seven Step- Granddaughters; five step-grandsons; one devoted sister, Virginia Ashton of King George, Virginia; three devoted brothers, Deacon Robert Brown(Annette) of Fort Washington, Maryland, Bernard C. Hazel Gaskins Bagby was born July 4, 1949 to the late William H. Scott and Julia O. Scott in Richmond County, Virginia.
Hazel was educated in the Richmond County Public Schools and she joined Second Baptist Church at an early age.
She was a fun, loving, outgoing person that everyone loved. Hazel, as we all know, was well known for her potato salad. She loved to work and was a dedicated worker. She worked at Quality Automotive/FDP for roughly over twenty years before her health began to fail.
She was joined in holy matrimony on July 3, 2004 to James T. Bagby
Hazel departed this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at her home in Warsaw, Virginia. She was preceded in death by daughter Sandy T. Gaskins, brother, Russell Scott and father, William (Harry) Scott.
Cherishing her memory are: her mother, Julia O. Scott; her wonderful and loving husband, James T. Bagby; three sons, Alfonzo Gaskins (Tracey) of Westmoreland, Terry Gaskins (Vicki) of Heathsville, VA, and Dante Gaskins (Cathy) of Warsaw, VA; one daughter, Tanya Gaskins (David) of Callao, VA; three sisters, Myrteen Grimes (Louis) of Richmond, VA, Rhonda Darlene Scott (Roger) of Tappahannock, VA, and Brenda Scott (Wayne) of Warsaw, VA; five brothers, Lloyd Scott (Glenda), Harry Scott, Jr., both of Warsaw, Reginald Scott (Maxine) of Tappahannock,VA, Bruce Scott of Warsaw,VA and Gregory Scott (Tina) of Warsaw, VA; two aunts, Rosie Scott and Mary Barber, both of Warsaw, VA; one uncle, Frank Scott of Warsaw, VA; brother-in-law, George Reed Bagby of VA Beach; sister-in-law, Rosemary Bagby of New Jersey; uncle-in-law, Albert Bagby of King & Queen; thirteen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; twelve nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, family and friends. Wilbur was born to Mary E. Veney and Perry Sydnor on April 10, 1914 in Threeway, Virginia. His grandparents were Elsie Jane Lopes Veney, Major Veney and Easter Sydnor. He attended Bethethel School in Threeway, Virginia.
He married Fannie L. Brooks on July 10, 1943 and to this union three children were born, Mary L. Veney of Arlington, Virginia, Geraldine Veney of Warsaw, Virginia and Earnest Veney of Danville, Virginia.
He had one daughter-in-law, Lucy Veney; four sisters, Susie Veney preceded him in death, Mamie and Lillian Veney of Emmerton, Virginia and Laura Veney of Warsaw, Virginia; Also five grandchildren, Alcinda Tate of Alexandria, VA, Ralston Veney of Arlington, VA Kathy Winston of Frederricksburg, VA, Tamala Hayes of New Jersey and Steven Veney of Arlington, VA; Nine great grandchildren; eight nieces, four nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Wilbur had three very close friends, Barbara and Roger Thompson and Walter Johnson.
He was a member of Lyells Chapel Baptist Church, the Northern Neck Hunt Club and the Threeway Community Club. Also, he was the custodian of the Thompsontown Cemetery in Threeway, VA.
Wilbur enjoyed listening to gospel music and watching Rev. Patterson?s TV Show out of Atlanta, GA. He was a loving, gentle, and kind man. He was well loved by all that knew him. Wilbur loved to hunt, cook, can and garden. He worked as a cook on a fishing boat and at the sawmill for many years. He spent many years working construction before he retired. Wilbur was a great provider to his family and friends. Mary, Gearldine, Earnest, and Steven all loved him and he will never be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
We are not saying goodbye, but see you later.
Heaven?s call is something greater.
There is no sickness, death, or pain,
But better still, the Lord we gain.

On January 15, 2007, James Andrew Bailey entered into peaceful rest after a brief illness at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was born in Haynesville, Virginia on September 26, 1943 to Helen and the late Thomas Bailey. Andrew accepted the Lord and joined Lyells Chapel Baptist Church at an early age.
He met and married Hilda Sorrell on April 24, 1964, and to this union two children were born. He worked hard to provide for his family.
Drew leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Hilda Sorrell Bailey; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Bailey; one son who preceded him in death, Tyrone Bailey, affectionately known as (Bumpsy), and one devoted, who we helped raise and called our own, Corey Anthony Yerby; his mother, Helen Bailey; two loving grandchildren, Avantae and Craig Hence, II; two sisters, Charlotte Marshall (Donald) and Betty Dickson of Baltimore, Maryland; four brothers, Thomas Walter (Rose), Lewis (Frances), Raymond, affectionately known as (Cee) (Gloria), and Charles, affectionately known as (Winky) (Sherry) of Richmond, Virginia; three aunts, Grace Brooks, Hattie Berry and Dorothy Mickens of Baltimore, Maryland; one uncle, Tommy Norris of Wicomico, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Fannie Cobbs of Hyattsville, Maryland and Dorothy Fox of Mt. Sallie Ann Jackson departed this life on Thursday, January 4, 2007, at her home in Richmond County, Virginia. She was born July 2, 1934 to the late Edith Johnson Sydnor and step-father Arthur Sydnor. She received her education in the public schools of Richmond County. Early in life she received the Right Hand of Fellowship at Second Baptist Church and remained a member throughout her life. On September 16, 1950, she was united in holy matrimony to Randolph James Jackson. She leaves to mourn their loss: seven children, Ann Adrion of Philadelphia, PA, Berma Crockett, Justine Ball, Audrey Ashton of Warsaw, Virginia, Harvey Jackson of Oldhams, Virginia, Rembert Jackson of Warsaw, Virginia and Robert Jackson of Heathsville, Virginia; two sisters, Marie Smalls and Doris Carey; three brothers, Jack Sydnor, Juddie Sydnor and Allen Sydnor; two daughters-in-law, Madlyn Y. Jackson and Michelle Jackson; four sisters-in-law; fifteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a very special friend and cousin, Mary Lee Scott, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
